3. Dexterous hand dynamics

ManipulationITHome · Sep 2
On Sep 2, embodied-AI firm X Square Robot unveiled TwinDEX, a pair of twin three-finger, nine-DoF dexterous manipulation hands: one is a wearable data-collection device, the other is mounted on real robots. The collection and execution sides are mirror-designed to stay identical in kinematics (DoF, joint axes, link ratios), contact mechanics (materials, geometry, tactile sensors), visual appearance and joint accuracy. Official evaluations show robot-free collection is 5.3× more efficient than real-robot teleoperation, and robot-free data replaces close to 100% of teleop data in training. The company says this reshapes the "data pyramid": dexterous-manipulation training no longer hinges on costly real-robot data, making large-scale robot-free collection a viable path.

LimX Dynamics' dual-arm mobile platform TRON 2, fitted with Wuji Technology's five-finger Wuji Hand 2, completed a full validation run in a pharmacy: herb picking, suspended weighing, grinding and packing. Wuji Hand 2 delivers 20 active fully-direct-drive DoF (~180×80×40 mm, near-human size, 12 kg static grip, full opposition and lateral swing); TRON 2 offers ±0.5 mm repeatability. The stated goal: hand users a "ready-to-use" arm-hand combo with mechanics, power, communication and data all integrated — answering the industry gap that "hands are getting very capable, but few teams actually put them to work."

Funding: RMB 16.88bn for the sector in 2025; the first seven months of 2026 already surpassed that (~RMB 28.5bn by end-July). The industry is shifting from a "spec race" to stability, practicality and deployment capability.

It runs Galbot's own AstraBrain-WBC general-purpose "little brain" foundation model trained on 100,000 hours of human motion — it learns gestures by watching people and improvises with other robots in real time. Unlike "bolted-on" agents, neural inference and motor closed-loop control are co-designed in one real-time frame, making thought and action near-synchronous. Targets: home, retail, guidance.

7. Industry trends & global news

StandardsCNR (China) · Aug 27
Issued by the MIIT Science & Technology Department on Aug 24, the draft guide is open for public comment from Aug 25 to Sep 23. The standards system spans six blocks: common foundations; brain-like & computing; body parts & components — including perception modules (vision, force, tactile) and execution modules (rotary, linear, dexterous hand); complete robots & systems; applications; safety & ethics. Target: at least 100 key standards by 2028 and 200+ enterprises adopting them. A parallel guide for brain-computer interfaces is also under consultation.
PolicyNDRC (official site) · Aug 28
At its Aug 28 monthly press conference, NDRC spokesperson Li Chao said the state will anchor on embodied-AI training grounds and national AI application pilot bases so robots iterate in real scenes and form application loops around real demand: building high-quality real-robot data acquisition systems (to ease the "data hunger"), supporting vision-language-action and world-model routes, and building technical standards that lower cross-embodiment adaptation costs. He also cautioned against blindly following trends.
GlobalTesorb (public-information synthesis) · as of Sep 1
Third-party tracking (public information as of late August): Optimus Gen 3 is ramping at Tesla's Fremont pilot factory with ~1,000 robots deployed, mostly for internal learning rather than productive work; estimated manufacturing cost $50k-100k per unit, enterprise pricing above $100k, with Musk's consumer target of $20k-30k no earlier than 2028-2029. The analysis stresses the absence of a paying external customer so far — while Figure already bills ~$25/robot-hour to BMW and others. Tesla's Sep 3 Cybercab event is seen as a window for new Optimus V3 signals.
GlobalTeahose (data-driven ranking) · as of Aug 24
A third-party ranking (capital, signals, real deployments) places Figure AI first — Series C over $1bn (~$39bn valuation), in-house Helix model, an 11-month BMW Spartanburg pilot handling 90,000+ parts and expanding to Leipzig — ahead of Tesla (scale) and Unitree, a rare profitable player: ~RMB 1.7bn revenue in 2025 (+335%) and RMB 1.152bn in H1 2026 (+48.5%); listed on the STAR Market on Aug 19, its market cap retreated from an extreme peak to ~$34bn by Aug 24. Next come Physical Intelligence (the model layer, ~$5.6bn), Apptronik and Boston Dynamics. The report flags the value battle between the model layer and the hardware layer.
